Front Lawn / The day after

Australia had its general election this weekend.  Please don't judge us by the person who will now walk the world stage as our leader.   There are always winners and losers in life, and politically I seem to generally support the losing side.  But at least I can sleep at night!

I went out to collect the morning paper (mourning paper?) and found this dandelion on my front lawn.  It's simple colour and texture lifted my gloom.   Even in the face of disappointment, there is still beauty.

You can find more close up shots at Macro Monday2 and I Love Macro.

  12. Ah, Stewart. There’s an apocryphal story about General Macarthur being asked who he thought would win the Korean war (oops, ‘conflict’), and he’s supposed to have indicated the local people around him and replied: “I don’t know, but these poor bastards have certainly lost it.”

The really tragic thing about Australia today (à mon avis) is that, whoever won this election, we’d already lost it long ago.

The barbarians are in the mortgage-belt marginal seats, and they’re deciding the country’s ‘aspirations’ and morality.

Me, I’m trying to find a people smuggler who can get me outa here.

  14. At least your campaigns are short. Dang...even when the person I vote for wins (as happened the last 2 elections here) I get sick of the long long campaign season. I wish we could take a lesson from your country on that. But I'm sorry you were disappointed..If I correctly understood what I read about the parties, I would have been disappointed too if I lived there.

  16. Little faces of sunshine.
Sorry about your election let down.
I've been reading the Poisonwood Bible - quite a read and nearly complete.. It has offered much food for thought on elections.

  17. Add me to your "disappointed" list. I am staggered at the swing. Every little shining gold wild flower helps the mood. Lovely photo.

  21. Beautiful! I've completely lost faith in politicians. They all seem to be a bunch of rotten apples.

  22. I'm sad that my government that I thought was by the people for the people doesn't stop atrocities like Mon - santo. Yellow is such a cheery color, and the bees sure love them. I like the little curlicued stamens.
